To Sign Up to Volunteer:
Click on the Sign-Up Genius.com links after each volunteer job description below.
You may sign up for as many shifts and different duties as you feel you are able to commit.
You do not need to “create an account” on Sign Up Genius.com in order to volunteer for Design House.
A 9:45am-1:00 p.m. shift means we need you in place by 9:45 a.m., and you should be available until 1:00 p.m.
Volunteers may tour the house for free on the day they volunteer. Return visits require a ticket.

Volunteers are vital to the success of Design House and serve as ambassadors for SHE.
“Can I work double shifts?” Yes. You know yourself best.
“Can I change the start and end times of my shift slightly?” Sorry, but no. The schedules show the minimum volunteer coverage we need. And, shifts are often interdependent.
“Do volunteers tour Design House for free?” Yes, on the day you volunteer. However, any other visits require a ticket.
General Info about Design House:
Design House will be open to the public, every day, from Saturday, May 7 until Sunday, May 22.
Hours are 10am – 4pm each day, with extended hours until 7pm on Wednesday, May 11th; Thursday, May 12th; Wednesday, May 18th; and, Thursday, May 19th.
Tickets are $20 each. A Multi-Visit Ticket is available for purchase at the house during tour hours. Ask at the Ticket Table about converting your one-day ticket.
House Captains are the lead volunteers each day Design House is open to the public. They open and close the House, guide all other volunteers, handle emergencies and keep in contact with Committee Chairs and Shelter staff.
House Captains should feel comfortable taking on this higher level of responsibility, which involves working with the public, handling money, and supervising others. House Captains also need a mobile phone and should be willing to use it regularly during their shift. Most shifts are about 4.5 hours long.

Shuttle Drivers are needed to transport visitors from the event parking lot to the Design House and return visitors to their cars at the end of their tours.
Shuttle Drivers must be at least 25 years old, have a valid driver’s license, and have a clean driving record. Shuttle Drivers also need a mobile phone and should be willing to use it regularly during their shift to communicate with House Captains. Most shifts are about 4 hours long.

Tickets are available for advance purchase, but many visitors buy tickets at the door. Ticket Sales volunteers should feel comfortable working with the public and money. Most shifts are about 3.5 hours long.

Greeters are stationed at the front door to welcome visitors to Design House and provide information about the Shelter. Greeters will also work closely with House Captains to place Room Hosts and serve as all-around people-movers.
Greeters should feel comfortable speaking about Design House and the Shelter. Most shifts are about 4.5 hours long.

Visitors are invited to walk through Design House at their own pace. Room Hosts are stationed at key locations and provide information about each designer, background on the inspiration for the room, and specific details of note.
Room Hosts should feel comfortable speaking to the public and be able to stand for about 4 hours. Enthusiasm for design is helpful but not required.

Special Events Ass’ts
Several Special Events, including the Preview Party on Thursday, May 5th and educational seminars during morning hours that the house is open, will need volunteers to do various as-needed jobs, such as replenishing refreshments, counting attendance, and placing table decorations.
Boutique Ass’ts work in the retail sales area which will offer home and garden accessory items as well as other merchandise.
Boutique Ass’ts should be comfortable in a retail sales environment, be able to learn to operate the cash register, be willing to help with re-stocking merchandise, and exhibit an enthusiastic attitude helping with Design House visitors.

Café Ass’ts. work in the refreshment area where visitors can purchase light refreshments, relax, and reflect on the Design House experience.
Café volunteers should feel comfortable working with the public, handling money, and restocking supplies.

Raffle Sales Volunteers will sell tickets for raffle items donated by designers to benefit the Shelter. Raffle volunteers should feel comfortable engaging with the public and encouraging visitors to purchase raffle tickets.
